The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) reinforces its policies and programs to intensify the use of CNG and LNG in the transport of people and heavy cargo at the national level, with the aim of progressively reducing dependence on fuels derived from petroleum.
In order to continue with the policy of using cleaner and more efficient energy, MINEM seeks to reduce the national demand for diesel and gradually replace it with natural gas, as part of the energy transition in Peru.
To date, 77% of the vehicle fleet uses gasoline and 10% uses diesel. However, this last fuel, despite having a lower percentage of consumers, used 49% of the energy, compared to gasoline and gasohol, which, with a greater number of users, only used 30%.
In addition, the demand for diesel in Peru is met 30% with local production and 70% with imports. Added to this, the variation in international prices directly impacts local prices, which are also affected by supply and demand and external factors, among others.
That is why promoting the use of natural gas for vehicles, in addition to contributing to the improvement of air quality, will allow significant economic savings for users, such as private vehicles, interprovincial transport companies and public buses, among other productive sectors; thus impacting the economic reactivation of the population.
It also will help meet the Peruvian demand for fuels in a reliable, regular, continuous and efficient manner, and will contribute to reducing diesel imports, lowering the supply risk since natural gas does not depend on external sources.
In this very promising scenario in terms of the growing adoption of natural gas, AltFuels Peru 2023 will be held from April 19 to 22, at Villa Complejo Ferial, in the city of Lima. The event will include conferences led by more than 70 speakers, experts in natural gas, alternative fuels and sustainable mobility, as well as an exhibition with more than 120 companies that will exhibit their latest generation products and services, including vehicles, engines, refueling equipment, components and conversion systems, among others.
