The Urban Logistics Operational Management of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires carried out a study to evaluate the operation of a CNG-powered public waste collection service truck, with the objective of move towards a sustainable and environmentally friendly freight transportation.
The biomethane from Del Rio Dairy in Texas, which start flowing in June to the transportation market, now is generating D3 renewable identification numbers (RINs) credits under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Renewable Fuel Standard, as well as credits through Oregon’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) program.
The Spanish gas association launched an information campaign that advocates promoting the transition of vehicles towards CNG as an efficient, profitable and sustainable mobility alternative. Naturgy has already signed the first long-term purchase contract for liquid biomethane. The agreement will entail the purchase of an annual production of 25 GWh of bio-LNG obtained at the Sologas waste recovery plant in As Somozas (La Coruña), whose entry into operation is scheduled for the end of 2023.
Biomethane (bioCNG and bioLNG) represents an immediate opportunity to decarbonize the growing fleet of heavy-duty vehicles and ships powered by natural gas, supported by the advanced development of the supply infrastructure. An exponential increase in biomethane production is expected to multiply by 10 in the next 2 years in Spain.
In line with the values of a sustainable sport such as cycling, the IVECO S-Way LNG truck carries out various steps towards decarbonization also during the Giro d’Italia, thanks to a mature and available technology such as biomethane, which allows achieve a reduction of emissions of up to 121%, as demonstrated by the study prepared by the CNR.

NGVAmerica and the CoRNG Coalition announced that 69% of all on-road fuel used in natural gas vehicles in calendar year 2022 was renewable natural gas, surpassing the previous year’s record-breaking level. Biomethane use as a transportation fuel grew 17% over 2021 volumes, up 218% from 2018 levels.
