An exponential increase in biomethane production is expected to multiply by 10 in the next 2 years in Spain.
With the opening of Air Liquide’s high-pressure hydrogen station in Fos-sur-Mer (Marseille) and Iveco Group’s readiness to deliver hydrogen trucks starting from late 2023, the two companies are paving the way for hydrogen long-haulage mobility in Europe. NGVAmerica announced that over $233.76 million has been awarded by the Biden administration to natural gas transit projects across the US. Both companies have among their main lines of action the promotion of net zero emission technologies to contribute to the decarbonisation of society. That shared ambition led both companies to sign a collaboration agreement to promote the use of renewable hydrogen to decarbonize transportation for the next few years.
Both companies signed a long-term agreement for the supply of LNG to the new MSC Euribia, as well as a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the goal of cooperating on the supply of synthetic e-LNG made with renewable energy. Long-time customer and an early adopter of renewable natural gas, the Big Blue Bus in Santa Monica, CA has signed a maintenance agreement for its fleet of 195 transit buses that fuels with an anticipated 7.5 million gallons of biomethane. In 2015, Big Blue Bus became one of the country’s first municipal transit agencies to convert its entire fleet to this renewable fuel.
The facility, which is co-financed by the European Commission through the CEF Program, involved an investment of 16 million euros and adds to the set of actions carried out or currently underway at the port facility. It has a cryogenic tank with a storage capacity of 1,000 cubic meters and joins the terminal that Repsol has in the port of Bilbao.

Natural gas motor fuel is once again equitably taxed in the State of Indiana relative to traditional motor fuels. Passage of House Bill 23-1454 ensures that state taxes on natural gas motor fuel will be calculated based on the diesel gallon equivalent actually sold at the fueling dispenser. The Mayor of Olavarría Ezequiel Galli visited the YPF San Jacinto service station, where the construction of the first public service station that will allow fast refueling of CNG to trucks in Argentina is underway. Gasum has begun work on building a new biomethane station in the municipality of Keminmaa in northern Finland. Construction work will take around six months and the goal is to open the service station to the public by the end of this year. SIAD Macchine Impianti (SIAD MI) was selected to build a small scale LNG (SSLNG) plant for the production of biomethane near Röthenbach an der Pegnitz, in the Bavarian region of Germany. The client is bioplus LNG, a German company founded by VGT. The new plant, expected to be commissioned in October 2024, will produce 140 tons of bio-LNG per day.
Funding comes from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean School Bus Program. The $400 million grant opportunity will fund CNG, LPG, and electric buses that will produce either zero or low tailpipe emissions compared to their older diesel predecessors. These emission reductions will result in cleaner air for students, drivers, and the community.
The new ship, the 22nd vessel to join MSC Cruises’ fleet, will sail for four days from Saint-Nazaire to Copenhagen and achieve net zero GHG emissions using biomethane to demonstrate that net zero cruising is possible today. The new Irizar’s i8 coach will be commercially introduced later this year. Irizar made its debut in the LNG Class II and coach segment in 2021 with the i4, built on a Scania chassis and incorporating Chart twin cylindrical horizontally mounted cryogenic fuel tanks. Rå Biopark, the largest environment project in Northern Norway, and Barents NaturGass have signed a Letter Of Intent for the sale and distribution of biogas. The agreement has a duration of 10 years with options for renewal. Through closed systems Rå Biopark will produce bio-LNG equal to more than 5 million liters of diesel per annum.
The university’s hydrogen program Hycel and PACCAR Australia will develop zero-emissions solutions for the domestic heavy haulage market using the first hydrogen prime mover in Australia. The Optimus, a long-term chartered LNG bunker vessel by Titan and owned by Elengir, has completed the first LNG bunkering operation of AIDANova, AIDA Cruises’ eco-friendly cruise ship. The operation was successfully carried out and it ran smoothly as planned. This was the first LNG bunker supply ever performed in the Port of Kiel.

The newly launched mobile application allows users of four-wheeler natural gas vehicles to book time slots for refueling at a dedicated CNG dispenser at BEST bus depots. Currently, this service is available at Goregaon – Oshiwara and Ghatkopar bus depots, with plans to have similar facilities in other 13 bus depots across Mumbai that are managed by BEST.
Europe reached a total of 1,322 biomethane-producing facilities by April 2023. These 299 new plants represent nearly 30% more than the ones reported in the previous edition of this map in 2021. Compared to the previous editions of the map, the number of plants in Europe has steeply increased: 483 plants in the 2018 edition, 729 in 2020 and 1,023 in 2021.
The supply of goods needed by the Costa Firenze, such as some types of food, beverages, and technical supplies, will be transported from Costa Cruises’ warehouses in Genoa to Kiel using LC3 Trasporti trucks powered by bio-LNG. The use of this alternative fuel for the road transport of goods will cut CO2 emissions by almost 90%.
Mi Bus announced the start-up of a six-month pilot project to test two CNG buses, which will begin to provide service on May 22. The initiative, which included the development of the natural gas refueling station, is carried out together with Colon LNG Marketing, with the companies AES Panama and TotalEnergies as partners.
Hicid, the operator of the Vila-real urban transport service added two Scania CNG buses built by Castrosúa at the end of last year. Rolande has opened a new bio-LNG filling station at the Poort van Midden Gelderland business park, a strategic location situated on the A50 near Heteren, Arnhem and Wageningen. Orange Grove Charter School is piloting the first school bus in South Carolina to run on renewable natural gas, setting a new standard in sustainability for buses across the state.The vehicle is named the Cow Fart Bus to highlight how biomethane can come from a variety of natural sources, including cow manure.
The project, partially funded by the UK Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC), will establish if hydrogen fuel cell technology can deliver more zero-emission range to E-Transit customers traveling high mileages, with maximum loads, ancillary equipment such as chillers and with limited charging opportunities in the working shift.
On its path to a sustainable supply chain, EDEKA Minden-Hannover has already placed orders for the first 275 IVECO S-WAY LNG trucks in 2022 and 2023, which will join the 80 LNG-powered IVECO vehicles operating in its fleet leveraging its first bio-LNG station on the premises of the EDEKA logistics center in Lauenau, Germany.
The Consortium will launch a new incentive plan, through which carriers will get four-year interest-free financing for an amount of up to US$ 45,000, for switching diesel engines to natural gas. They also informed the addition of 40 CNG buses and the construction of a fourth CNG station in Cusco, and the development of an LNG Corridor in central and southern Peru.
Both Vox Ariane and Vox Apolonia are running on LNG during the project execution, a more sustainable alternative for Marine Gas Oil (MGO), free of sulfur and particulates. “Switching to this kind of alternative sources of fuel for our fleet will help us to achieve our net-zero emissions targets by 2050, in line with the Paris Agreement,” said the company in a statement.
Hillwood announced recent lease renewal and expansion with Cummins Clean Fuel Technologies, further expanding their alternative fuel technology footprint in AllianceTexas. The company manufactures Cummins-branded natural gas fuel systems at their facility in AllianceTexas for the North American commercial vehicle market.
Like the first two versions, the new initiative will capitalize on some of the latest available technology, including by biomethane. “Shell Starship 3.0 will feature some of the best-in-class technologies which are leading the way forward in helping decarbonize the heavy transport sector,” said Selda Gunsel, President of Shell Global Solutions.
LR Indústria e Comércio Ltda (Brazilian branch of Landi Renzo Spa) started an alliance with Uber to offer driver partners the chance of switching their cars to natural gas by renting a dedicated kit. The conversion must be carried out at Gas Specialist workshops that participate in the initiative. The monthly kit rental will be deducted directly from the driver’s earnings.

MSC World Europa is 333 meters long and the best performing large cruise ship operating in the world in terms of CO2eq emissions per passenger.
Gas Networks Ireland and Circle K have taken another step forward in reducing emissions from Ireland’s heavy transport industry, one of the most difficult industries to decarbonize. The companies are offering biomethane at Circle K’s forecourts in Ballysimon Road, Limerick; Cashel, Clonshaugh and Dublin Port.
These trucks have been tested on public roads for the first time. To make it extra-challenging, the tests have been conducted above the Arctic Circle in the north of Sweden – in an extremely cold climate. The vehicles will be available in the second half of this decade. Tests with haulers will start a few years before the commercial launch.
Amid increases in gasoline, natural gas continues to position itself as the cheapest alternative. So far in 2023, the purchase of CNG dedicated vehicles has increased by 12% compared to the same period of the previous year. There are currently several fleets of corporate vehicles that run on CNG in Cartagena, including Mercado Libre, Bimbo and Aguas de Cartagena.
Cummins, CNGVP showcase X15N 15-liter CNG engine in Class 8 truck for the first time in North America
The California Natural Gas Vehicle Partnership collaborated with Cummins to host a media event showcasing the Cummins X15N 15-liter natural gas engine in a Class 8 truck chassis for the first time in North America. Cummins anticipates that starting in 2024, fleets will have the opportunity to order factory-built Class 8 trucks with the X15N engine.
Developed for waste customers that want an alternative-fuel solution or that generate their own fuel (renewable natural gas), the Mack Granite CNG model features a 320-horsepower Cummins L9N engine matched with an Allison 4500 fully automatic 6-speed transmission. It is available as an axle-back model.

CNH Industrial’s brand has been awarded a 2023 Green Good Design Award for its T7 Methane Power LNG prototype tractor. The unit furthers the company’s position in the quest for viable alternative fuels. It features an LNG system that provides four times the fuel storage of the T6 model, the world’s first commercialized CNG tractor.
The company launched an initiative that enables operators of diesel-powered Class 7/8 trucks to reduce their carbon footprint by reducing the consumption of diesel fuel — displacing it (up to 60%) with CNG or biomethane. The new series of back of cab (BOC) natural gas fuel systems, available in 135 and 175 diesel gallon equivalent capacities, is now in production. With an enhanced design and paired with a Cummins X15N™ engine, the new systems receive the same base warranty coverage as the engine: two years/250,000 miles.

Mercuria Clean Energy Investments and Pretoria Energy Group confirmed the purchase of the 100% shareholding of Nottingham-based Roadgas Limited, which owns and operates several bio-CNG and bio-LNG stations in the UK. This new acquisition will offer a new natural gas fueling partner to fleet managers working to decarbonize operations.
The industrial biomethane production plant in La Galera (Tarragona) has successfully completed the first tests to inject this renewable gas into the gas grid. This facility, led by Enagás together with Infraestructura Biometagás and Biometagás, is the first private connection to the gas transmission network in Spain.
Through its partnership with Foton, Allison Transmission is providing the propulsion solution for 400 Foton AUV CNG buses being exported to Nuevo Leon to aid in the state’s plan to modernize its bus fleet. This combination will improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions and engine noise levels, while maximizing vehicle uptime and cutting maintenance costs.
The AG050 and AG100 stations process the biogas derived from the decomposition of organic waste and transform it into renewable natural gas, which can be used in NGVs. The solution has the capacity to process up to 50-100 cubic meters of biogas per hour, generating about 30-60 cubic meters of biomethane, which can supply between 3 and 10 tractors per day.
The logistics provider is testing and validating the 2023 X15N Cummins natural gas engine in its truck fleet and is one of the few carriers that have started testing the technology with renewable natural gas. The engine will be tested in the market through the Peterbilt Model 579. Cummins anticipates production of the X15N in 2024.
The new filling station is connected to the Redexis distribution network, which means 100% compatibility with the injection of biomethane, thus having the possibility of supplying this renewable and carbon-neutral energy in the future. It will serve the CNG urban bus fleet of the transport company Belizón y Rodríguez.
Tata Motors will soon launch the Altroz iCNG, India’s first twin cylinder CNG technology, and that it is already open for bookings. With this vehicle, the automaker aims at increasing the acceptance of natural gas-powered cars in India. With deliveries starting in May 2023, the Altroz iCNG is a strong testament to Tata Motors’ successful multi-powertrain strategy.
Operadora Portuaria Centroamericana (OPC), the Honduran business unit of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) that operates in Puerto Cortés, recently welcomed the inaugural call for Seaboard Blue, the first container ship in the world to be converted from conventional diesel to run on LNG.
IVM presented its new range of LNG and CNG trucks, buses and cars at its factory in Nnewi, Anambra state. The launch of the vehicles was attended by the President of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) Otunba Francis Meshioye. For him, the new NGVs represent great advancement in the manufacturing industry and indeed the pride of Nigeria and Africa.
The Ministry of Energy and Mines will reactivate the Southwest natural gas distribution concession, which includes the regions of Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna, with the aim of connecting new users in 2023. In addition to connecting thousands of homes, the construction of networks will allow the conversion of 1,100 vehicles to CNG in each of these three regions.
The new refueling station is located in Novara and is accesible to both trucks and passenger cars. With another second facility set to open in Verona later this year, OG Clean Fuels has ambitions to put into service even more bio-CNG and bio-LNG stations in Italy, which is the fourth country in which the company operates.
Rebus Regionalbus Rostock, responsible for the management of the public transport service in the region of Rostock in northern Germany, has concluded an agreement with Solaris Bus & Coach for the supply of 52 Solaris Urbino hydrogen buses, five of which are 18-meter articulated units. This is the largest contract obtained by Solaris for hydrogen vehicles.
Allison Transmission announced that, for the first time, Organización SUMA S.A.S. and Consorcio Express S.A.S., among the largest transit operators in Colombia, are receiving 263 new Scania F280 buses powered by CNG with Hexagon Agility fuel systems and equipped with Allison Torqmatic® Series fully automatic transmissions.
According to the plan, at full speed the new facility will employ 100 highly specialized people working lines equipped with the most advanced Industry 4.0 technologies. The production volume will be 1,000 vehicles per year: high-tech buses with zero-emission propulsion (including hydrogen fuel cells) and low-emission propulsion (including CNG and biomethane).
Walmart will debut the first North American—and the first of five— 15-liter CNG engine that will be incorporated into its private fleet. The X15N™ engine is supplied by Cummins and fueled by Chevron with CNG linked to renewable natural gas. The Walmart truck will make its inaugural trip from Indiana to California, making stops to refuel at Chevron stations.

Hand in hand with this trend, Lima will be the capital of clean fuels and the venue for AltFuels Peru 2023, on 20-22 April at Villa Complejo Ferial.
Tourmaline Oil Corp. and Clean Energy Fuels Corp. announced a $70 million Joint Development Agreement to build and operate a network of natural gas stations along key highway corridors across Western Canada. Through their 50-50 shared investment, Tourmaline and Clean Energy expect to construct and commission up to 20 CNG truck stations over the next five years.
The new facility, which has been modernized in accordance with Shell’s quality and safety standards applied throughout Europe, will supply trucks with LNG, and in the future with bio-LNG, as well as support to other countries, e.g. freight traffic to Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Romania, Slovenia or Slovakia.
Liberty launched Liberty Power Innovations (LPI), an integrated alternative fuel and power solutions provider for remote applications. LPI’s initial focus is on CNG supply, field gas processing and treating, and well site fueling and logistics. Liberty was an early driver in the industry shift from diesel to natural gas, deploying their first dual fuel fleet 10 years ago.
Maruti Suzuki presented its upgraded light commercial vehicle, Super Carry, which is now powered by its 1.2L Advanced K-Series Dual Jet, Dual VVT engine. Most Recology collection trucks now operate on renewable natural gas and renewable diesel. Scania Argentina delivered a vehicle of the Green Efficiency Line to Logística Urbana SA to be tested for a month in waste collection in the city of Córdoba. With great results, the urban cleaning provider tested a CNG-powered rear-loading P280 4×2 truck, which allowed to verify an excellent driving autonomy.
Through the acquisition of Renewable Transport Fuel Services Limited, the company established a new holding company, ReFuels. IVECO has delivered 10 natural gas trucks to Tservice SPA through Socom Nuova, its dealer in Naples. The IVECO S-Way, model AS440S46T/P LNG, will run on biomethane for a reduction of emissions of up to 121% and will be used for connections between the hubs located on national and international territory.
With 124 existing CNG trucks from Scania, Reiter Log ordered an additional 124 of the same kind. It all started in 2021, when the carrier purchased the first batch of vehicles powered by CNG and bio-CNG. In 2022, the company took another step in their sustainability journey by increasing the fleet of NGVs by 100%.
The company will supply its Mobile Pipeline® X-STORE® modules to Manaseer Oil and Gas, a business of the Manaseer Group and the owner/operator of a chain of fuel stations in Jordan. Los Ángeles Gas (LAG) launched the first multi-fuel station in the province of A Coruña. The refueling point, which supplies CNG and LNG, is located at the company’s facilities in A Sionlla, a high strategic value for transport on the Northern highway. It also offers diesel, gasoline, LAG Blue, LPG and electric charging.
The new Renewable Natural Gas Incentive Act of 2023 (H.R. 2448) would create a $1.00 per gallon tax credit for sellers of biomethane used for transportation for 10 years, allowing businesses to maximize the credit’s effectiveness to reduce their emissions while investing in zero-emission vehicle infrastructure.
These buses are part of a much bigger and more ambitious project that, starting from the beginning of 2022, has seen the gradual introduction into Arriva Italia’s fleet of about 50 new natural gas vehicles, with the aim of reaching 200 by the beginning of 2024, according to the company, which also plans to use biomethane to power its fleet.

Upon arrival at Las Chilcas (Córdoba), it will be subjected to exhaustive performance tests with the biomethane produced in the farm. Coca-Cola Kwanza, a Tanzanian subsidiary of Coca-Cola Beverages Africa, received its first CNG truck from Scania Tanzania to help it transition to a more economical, low-emission transport system. Coca-Cola Kwanza already completed a pilot project to test the truck and, according to this study, it is expected to reduce 27% of their operational costs on every trip.

The company announced a significant expansion of its organics recycling operations in California with the acquisition of North State Bioenergy, an anaerobic digestion facility north of Sacramento that will break down the organic material and create biogas, which can be converted into renewable natural gas to fuel Republic’s truck fleet.
The consortium of the European LIFE NIMBUS project opened a biomethane production plant from sewage sludge, which will supply a public bus in the Barcelona metropolitan area. LIFE NIMBUS aims to promote more sustainable transport through the circular economy and is aligned with the Biogas Roadmap, approved in Spain in 2022.
Hexagon Agility recently hosted Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen, who toured their composite-tank manufacturing plant at the Lincoln Airport’s industrial park. “It really inspires me, being a lifelong Nebraskan, spending our lives as farmers and ranchers and producers caring about our environment. Seeing Hexagon and what they are doing is really exciting,” said Pillen.
This truck features six CNG tanks, each with a capacity of 80 liters, which give it an approximate autonomy between 300 and 400 kilometers depending on the load, the mission and the driving mode. It offers power and a low level of gaseous and sound emissions, in addition to a reduction in operating costs of around 20%.
This confirms the success of the Port’s strategy of bringing the most environmentally friendly vessels to the Catalan capital. The LNG-powered cruise ships belong to the companies Aida, Costa, P&O and MSC. Almost a decade ago, the Port of Barcelona opted for LNG due to its benefits compared to traditional fuels.

The successful bunkering of the ZIM SAMMY OFER container vessel with LNG took place at Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited (KFTL) on March 26. With this milestone, Kingston is now a new LNG bunkering location for Shell, expanding its global LNG network to 16 locations in 11 countries. To date, Shell has already achieved +1,000 safe ship-to-ship bunkering operations.
The “Zero Emission Groupage” is an innovative and scalable transport service that will start between Milan and Rome. It is the first complete groupage line, from the first to the last mile, to be structured with a view to zeroing emissions. This is made possible by the use of vehicles powered by clean energy, including biomethane.
Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Sergey Kogogin, Director General of KAMAZ, signed an agreement, under which KAMAZ will build natural gas intercity buses and off-road vehicles for Gazprom. The buses will be used to carry employees to the working places that are located away from the available public transport network.
The Nordic energy company has put into operation a new bio-LNG filling station in northern Sweden. It is located in Luleå and will enable the company to meet growing customer demand for environmentally friendly biomethane, even in the northernmost parts of Sweden. The new facility is a result of cooperation with Sandahls Logistik.
Over a period of three years, the company will be acquiring a total of 540 NGVs, to be delivered in batches of 180 units per year. This is a major step in the International Breweries’ commitment to reducing their carbon footprint, improving their environmental sustainability, and contributing to the development of Nigeria to reach net zero emissions by 2060.
SEA-LNG recognizes the importance of continuing to drive global infrastructure build-out to improve availability of LNG bunkering to the rapidly growing global LNG-fueled fleet. The recent addition of Énestas to its membership supports this drive. In January 2023, LNG was available at 185 ports worldwide with a further 50 facilities planned by 2025.
Over 10 years, Russian NGV refueling network expanded threefold, comprising 728 service stations as of early 2023. CNG total sales have increased fourfold across the country since 2012, amounting to about 1.5 billion cubic meters last year. The NGV fleet is also being consistently expanded: there are about 285,000 natural gas vehicles in Russia today.
The new facility is located at the Repsol service station in Ojáiz (Santander) and will contribute to the decarbonization of mobility in the region. It can refuel both passenger cars and short and medium-distance distribution vehicles, and joins the seven CNG stations that Repsol and Nortegas have already opened in Vizcaya, Guipúzcoa, Asturias, Madrid, Álava, and La Rioja.

Through this alliance, FirstElement is leveraging its True Zero network of hydrogen stations to fuel three XCIENT prototypes at full 700 bar pressure. In addition, FirstElement is deploying its first-of-its-kind high capacity mobile refueler.
The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El-Molla has opened a conversion mobile center as part of the country’s efforts to expand reliance on clean and cheap energy. The facility, owned by GasTech, includes all CNG components and kits and can convert 20 cars daily. It is the first of its kind in Egypt and the Middle East.

This makes Palma the second Spanish city, after Barcelona, to have a fleet of vehicles powered by green hydrogen fuel cells. The five 12-meter buses were manufactured by Solaris.

Scania Argentina completed the test of one of its CNG vehicles in Mar del Plata, together with the bus company Peralta Ramos and the Municipality of General Pueyrredón. Peralta Ramos, which operates part of the local urban transport lines, trialed for a month the K280 of the Green Efficiency Line, with results extremely satisfactory for all parties.

The M/V Seaboard Blue became the first cargo vessel to be bunkered at PortMiami using LNG as a fuel. With its Q4000 bunker barge, Shell filled Seaboard Marine’s vessel with LNG prior to its inaugural southbound sailing to Honduras and Guatemala. It was retrofitted in 2017 and was the world’s first container ship converted from conventional diesel propulsion to LNG.
The new filling station, designed and built by HAM Criogénica, has two LNG dispensers (three hoses) to refuel trucks and heavy vehicles, and two CNG dispensers (three hoses) to refuel cars, light vehicles, and trucks. It is located at Cañada Berciana 9A, next to the A-6 (Northwest highway) and the N-630, in Benavente, Province of Zamora.
The arrival of this model in Chile, through Andes Motor, will allow Transportes San Gabriel to increase its natural gas fleet with 15 new vehicles. The S-WAY is an LNG truck specifically designed for long-distance transport, with best-in-class autonomy thanks to ranges of up to 1,600 kilometers, and state-of-the-art tanks for a maximum of 1,080 liters.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), in cooperation with Blue Eyes (Omani company specialized in research and development), has unveiled the first truck that operates with a combined combustion technology of diesel and hydrogen within the Sultanate of Oman.
The 175,500-ton Sun Princess is the largest ship built so far in Italy, as well as the first LNG-fueled cruise ship ever built by Fincantieri, and the first dual-fuel vessel powered primarily by LNG to enter Princess’ fleet. It will be delivered in Q1 2024 starting the Sphere class, which includes a sister-ship to be delivered in 2025, and will accommodate 4,300 guests.
The natural gas vehicle brands with the highest number of registrations in January 2023 were: Scania, FAW, Shacman, Sinotruk and Dongfeng, with market shares in the order of 42.9%, 32.3%, 15.0%, 6.0% and 3.0% representing 90.2% of the total number of dedicated CNG vehicles registered in the first month of the year.
The first two Scania biogas engines mean a huge commitment to the circular economy. It begins with the sowing of the seed to convert it into food for the animals, then it works with the manure, which is introduced into one of the biodigesters. At the end of the process, the biogas obtained is transformed into electricity through generator sets with Scania engines.
The new facility will cover the entire hydrogen cycle: production, storage and distribution of green hydrogen in a totally innovative comprehensive engineering commitment that has an investment of 10.86 million euros co-financed by the ERDF. 10 hydrogen buses, the first in the municipal fleet, will start refueling at this station in the first months of 2024.
Mobilizing the expertise of its founding members (CEVA Logistics, ENGIE and SANEF), the European Clean Transport Network Alliance envisions building and operating a network of strategically located truck terminals offering low-carbon refueling solutions, including biomethane and hydrogen, for the transportation of merchandise along Europe’s motorways.
The Vice Minister of Hydrocarbons met with the Regional Governor of Ayacuchano and ratified the ministry’s commitment to make the Integrated Gas Transportation System – Southern Zone of Peru a reality. Work is being done to advance the project for the construction of natural gas networks for Huamanga, intended for vehicular, residential and commercial use.
During the 2023 edition of Expoagro, Scania Argentina presented the new back-of-cab natural gas storage system, from Hexagon Agility, which will allow to double the autonomy in the CNG vehicles of the Green Efficiency line. With this addition, a 6×2 truck can reach a range of 790 km, while a 4×2 can travel 900 km.
Despite their large dimensions (6.36 m long, 2.15 wide and 3.26 high), the two new CNG vehicles have high mobility and great performance in the task of mechanical sweeping. They are also equipped with a water application system to reduce the dust that is generated and humidify the sweeping brushes.
Ohra Energie has placed a new order for which Lower Saxony-based EnviTec Biogas will implement its innovative gas upgrading technology as a single-stage process for the first time. The initiative encompasses a single-stage gas upgrading plant that is operated with only five SEPURAN® Green Membranes. The purified methane is then fed directly to the CNG station.
The mega order consists of 800 buses in total, including 300 Yuwei E12 (ZK6126BEVG) buses and 500 CNG buses (ZK6116HG and ZK6126HG), setting a new record for China’s export of buses to Uzbekistan. The vehicles will be delivered to Tashkent, the country’s capital, to help Uzbekistan lead the low-carbon transformation of public transport in Central Asia.
Periféricas Lazcano received a fleet of 33 C12 Foton natural gas buses. The new vehicles will be used to operate the two tenders that the transit operator obtained in the Metrorrey Massive Transportation System for the next 10 years on the TransMetro lines. Each unit has a capacity for 100 passengers, Cummins CNG engine and Allison transmission.
This new facility, located in Avilés (Asturias), has the capacity to serve all types of vehicles -buses, delivery vans, cars and short and medium distance trucks- and will allow the expansion of public-access NGV refueling infrastructure. The choice of this location responds to a strategic position in relation to the traffic density of the area and its proximity to logistics centers.
Spezzano Trasporti’s new vehicles, equipped with a 460 HP Cursor 13 engine, will be used for the transport of food at controlled temperatures throughout the Italian and European territory. Biomethane is the only technology capable of achieving carbon negativity with a range of 1,600 km, a refueling capacity comparable to diesel and a higher payload.
After four years of work, the BMW iX5 Hydrogen and development project is entering its critical next phase. The fleet of under 100 cars will then be employed internationally for demonstration and trial purposes for various target groups. The pilot vehicles in real-world use will deliver valuable knowledge, paving the way for potential series production.

Chevron’s CNG efforts complement the strength of its traditional products business with new offerings that help customers support a lower carbon future. To continue promoting sustainable mobility, Scania will announce some news regarding the autonomy of its Green Efficiency range, its family of trucks and buses that use alternative fuels such as CNG and biomethane, and will exhibit trucks and engines powered by natural gas, along with a portfolio of products designed for the agricultural sector.
Shell Western LNG B.V will supply LNG to Hapag-Lloyd’s ultra large dual-fuel container vessels. Bunkering for these 12 new vessels is expected to start in the second half of 2023 and LNG will be supplied in the Port of Rotterdam. This is another important step for Hapag-Lloyd to decarbonize its fleet in line with its goal of becoming net zero carbon by 2045.
Enagás Renovable and Genia Bioenergy announced the creation of a joint venture to create ‘The Green Vector’ (TGV), a platform to promote the development of biomethane from organic waste in Spain. The initiative integrates all the actors in the waste recovery chain, including the production, distribution and final consumption of biomethane.
revis bioenergy will supply Liqvis with bio-LNG from mid-2023, produced exclusively from advanced waste and residual agricultural materials in accordance with EU regulation RED II. Liqvis plans to offer bio-LNG for heavy duty transport at its LNG stations in Germany and to gradually convert its entire supply portfolio to 100% biomethane.
Coordinated by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, the Green Ray project has secured European Union funding (around €7 million from Horizon Europe) to develop solutions minimizing methane slip from LNG-fueled marine engines. The initiative will develop technologies for low-pressure dual-fuel engines as well as a novel aftertreatment concept.
The initiative is the result of a collaboration with The Alexander Group and Linde Forklifts, and another significant step on Tobermore’s decarbonization journey, which includes the replacement of 60 diesel forklifts. The new truck will undertake work on site while gathering essential data associated with carbon reduction and fuel efficiency.
When complete in Q3 of 2023 (anticipated), the new facility will deliver CNG linked to renewable natural gas to Detmar’s new CNG-powered fleet of 60 trucks on the east side of Midland, just off I-20. It will also accommodate public vehicle fueling and bulk-fills for mobile pipeline operators. Chevron U.S.A. Inc. acquired full ownership of Beyond6 last year.
As an LNG-powered ship, MSC Euribia marks another step forward for MSC Cruises in substantially reducing greenhouse gas emissions. LNG plays a key role in the journey towards climate change mitigation and will reduce CO emissions by up to 25% on MSC Euribia compared to standard fuels while also virtually eliminating other air emissions.
China’s first integrated methanol-to-hydrogen and hydrogen service station is located in Dalian and can produce 1,000 kilograms of hydrogen per day, with a purity of 99.999%. It can also save costs on hydrogen production, storage and transportation by more than 20% compared to traditional filling stations.
The Ministry of Energy announced that a discount voucher of S/ 2,000 (U$S 530) is now available for owners of cars that use LPG interested in switching to natural gas with the NGV Savings Program. With the application of this mechanism, the number of conversions financed by the program is expected to increase by 50% in the next three months.
The joint study will be conducted as part of a bio-LNG technology research and development program approved by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment and promoted by Air Water. The goal is to use this renewable fuel, derived from cattle manure, on the MOL Group’s coastal LNG-powered vessel in the first half of FY2023.

Forty-four new buses were added to the Victoria Regional Transit System in the last quarter of 2022, helping secure safe and efficient transportation for transit riders. The new arrivals include 15 medium-duty and 21 heavy-duty natural gas buses to replace diesel buses at the end of their service life. This brings the total number of NGVs operating in Victoria to 101.
Hexagon Agility has received new 2023 orders from UPS, totaling USD 19 million, to deliver its CNG fuel systems for the shipping & logistics company’s trucks, which will power these vehicles with biomethane. Hexagon Agility is enabling the adoption of this renewable fuel to cost effectively combat climate change.
ULEMCo has been awarded a major fleet-wide contract by Aberdeen City Council for its hydrogen dual-fuel utility vehicle conversions. The agreement, initially for 35 vehicles, shows Aberdeen’s commitment to a hydrogen-based strategy. ULEMCo has supplied heavy duty vehicles to the city previously, and these have been running successfully on the roads for over a year.
It is the P280 model of the Scania Green Efficiency line, distinguished not only for being agile and operational but also for being the first of its kind in Mendoza to run on CNG. With this, Guaymallén becomes the first city in the province to carry out this experience, which means another contribution to its commitment to protect the environment.
Methane from dairy cow manure will become sustainable renewable natural gas at a new DTE Vantage biomass facility that begins operations this month in Birnamwood, Wisconsin. DTE Vantage is working with U.S. Gain, which will bring the fuel to the transportation market in California where it will help reduce the GHG emissions of its customers’ fleets.
Anaerobic digestion could deliver an additional benefit of 84-175 €/MWh of biomethane produced, while thermal gasification could deliver an additional 80-162 €/MWh. These benefits outweigh the current cost of producing biomethane through these technologies, according to a new report from the European Biogas Association (EBA).
Under this agreement, Cepsa will provide refueling facilities and green hydrogen, and Damas will add up to 10 buses powered by this energy to its fleet in the initial phase. Some of the routes will be Huelva-Seville, Seville Chipiona, Seville-Camas, Seville-Tomares, Huelva-Punta Umbria, and Huelva-Puerto de Santa Maria.
Trayecto has ordered additional KenMex CNG powered trucks with Hexagon Agility’s ProCab® 175 diesel gallon equivalent (DGE) and ProRail® 30 DGE fuel systems, which provide a driving range on par with counterpart diesel trucks, enabling Trayecto to utilize natural gas, and obtain its environmental benefits, without sacrificing performance.
Gruppo Brescia Mobilitá presented 30 IVECO Urbanway natural gas buses to the city. Eight additional NGVs will be added shortly and another 23 in January 2024, for a total of 61 new vehicles. Thanks to this latest purchase, Brescia Transporti now has 189 CNG-powered vehicles and has lowered the fleet’s average age.
Both the range of Renault utility vehicles made up of the Kangoo, Oroch, Trafic and Master, as well as the range of passenger cars with the Kwid, Sandero, Logan, Stepway, Duster and Captur, offer the possibility of being converted to natural gas, with direct injection technology, without losing their warranty.
The DOE has awarded $7.4 million to seven projects to develop medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicle charging and hydrogen corridor infrastructure plans that will benefit millions of drivers across 23 states. One of the selected initiatives is headed by the Gas Technology Institute: Houston to Los Angeles (H2LA)–I-10 Hydrogen Corridor Project.

The equipment is designed to transport 1.0 ton of hydrogen on the US roads and more than 1.3 ton on EU roads, with a working pressure of 517 bar (7,500 psi). The 60,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility, located in Maryland, will support the annual production of up to 10,000 cylinders for heavy-duty vehicle applications and will employ up to 150 skilled workers. It expands production capacity and allows for further expansion by adding additional production equipment as demand for hydrogen cylinders continues to grow.
The ‘Haugesund Knutsen’, chartered by Shell Spain and built by Astilleros Armón Gijón, will be based at the Port of Barcelona. It will also serve more customers in the Mediterranean, playing a key role in the region’s security of supply and boosting the use of LNG as the most environmentally friendly fuel for shipping today.
ColliCare Logistics has already received the first four Scania trucks that run on bio-LNG. The remaining six natural gas vehicles will arrive during Q1 2023. To achieve a sustainable delivery fleet and a greener future, the company is investing in changing their traditional road transport with biomethane-powered units.
The new bio-LNG truck can carry out demanding, long distance transport tasks, while reducing overall CO2 emissions. It features a new power level of 500 hp, joining the previous 420 and 460 hp engines. The new engine also gets major technical upgrades that make it up to 4% more fuel efficient, which together with a new 10% larger gas tank, allow a longer range.
The MINEM ratified its commitment to the widespread use of natural gas for vehicles through the NGV Savings program of the FISE, which finances the conversions of private cars and taxis, up to for an amount of S/ 4,000 (more than U$S 1,000). It is planned to reach more than 50,000 conversions this year, with a budget of S/ 400 million (U$S 104 million).
The new vehicles, accesible for wheelchairs and to transport bikes, are DINA Linner G model and will reduce 95% of polluting emissions, 90% of nitrogen oxides and about 20% of greenhouse gases. They are part of the UAEMex’s Potrobús shuttle service, which transports thousands of students with nearly 20 routes.
The two partners plan to deploy more than 100 filling stations, under the TotalEnergies brand, in France, Benelux and Germany in the coming years. Wärtsilä will supply its biogas liquefaction technology to Scandinavian Biogas Mönsterås, a joint venture company between Scandinavian Biogas Fuels (SBF) and local farmers supplying manure and agricultural waste to the project. The new plant will produce 30 tons per day of bio-LNG, which will be used as transport fuel for heavy vehicles.
The LNG vehicles feature two tanks of 540 liters each and allow a range of up to 1,600 km. They are equipped with the most advanced fuel saving systems such as predictive GPS, intelligent auxiliary systems and the Smart EGR system. The cab design, optimized from an aerodynamic point of view, allows for a further reduction in fuel consumption of up to 4%.

AG&P Pratham is developing CGD networks in three districts of Kerala including Alappuzha, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram. To date, the company has launched 11 CNG stations in Alappuzha, two in Kollam and seven in Thiruvananthapuram. They plan to launch 23 more CNG stations in the state by March 2023.
The 12-meter FOTON AUV buses have capacity for 100 passengers, feature Cummins engine and Allison transmission, and will help the State renovate its public transportation system. Of the 142 new NGVs, 30 are already operating in the direct University circuit, which supports the shuttle service of students from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, in Monterrey.
Clean Energy will supply 86 million gallons of renewable natural gas to San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS). By running on biomethane instead of diesel, it is anticipated that the MTS bus fleet will reduce 73,972 metric tons of CO2—the equivalent of planting 1.2 million trees or taking 15,939 gasoline cars off the road.

RWE, Germany’s second largest energy company, has chosen the Spanish multinational to set up and operate a new regasification terminal in Brünsbuttel. This unit will have the capacity to store up to 170,000 cubic meters of LNG on board and to deliver 5 bcm (billions of cubic meters) of natural gas to the grid annually.
Sangamon Mass Transit District (SMTD) received $5.9 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Low-No Emissions Bus Program, which will allow to replace eight of their diesel vehicles with four natural gas buses and four hybrids. Currently, SMTD runs 22 CNG buses.
Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL) signed an agreement to launch a pilot project to develop a hydrogen fuel cell truck for mining logistics and transportation with Ashok Leyland and Ballard Power. The vehicle, scheduled to be launched in India in 2023, will weigh 55 tons, have three hydrogen tanks, and a 200-km working range.
The President of the Council of Ministers Alberto Otárola referred to the widespread adoption of natural gas and said that the Ministry of Energy and Mines will promote the expansion of the current natural gas network with an investment of 491 million soles. He added that, until December 2022, 370,000 vehicles were converted to CNG.
The company announced the near completion of its Modesto, California, facility’s transformation into a first-of-its-kind showcase for sustainable manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution technologies. The upgrade involves the transition of the diesel fleet to ZE and NZE vehicles, fueling infrastructure for the new fleet and on-site renewable energy generation and storage.
Arla Foods has received seven new Volvo FM LNG 6×2 trucks that will run on biomethane to help the business meet its targets to reduce the CO2 emissions of its operation by 2030. They are expected to cover 200,000 km per year. Arla considers bio-LNG is the best option to improve the sustainability of its commercial vehicle fleet.
With the collaboration of GESA, Cálidda opened this new facility, located on the Panamericana Norte highway, in the District of Puente Piedra, Department of Lima. It will have a great impact on the development of sustainable mobility, promoting clean and economical Peruvian energy, which gives heavy duty fleets a range of up to 1,600 km.
The new facility is an EDUX service station, a new concept of mobile and transportable unit developed by HAM Criogénica. It features one dispenser with two hoses, which allows CNG to be refueled quickly and safely in passenger cars, light vehicles and trucks. HAM has a network of more than 100 natural gas stations in Spain and Europe.
Named BioBéarn and located in Mourenx in the south-west of France, this new unit, fed with organic waste, has begun feeding its first cubic meters of biomethane into the natural gas transmission network operated by Téréga. Its development began in 2016 and will be the largest in the country with a maximum capacity of 160 GWh.
The Council of Ministers, at the proposal of the Ministry for the Energy Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), approved a Royal Decree for the concession of 74 million euros for the start-up of four renewable hydrogen projects in Spain, from companies IVECO, H2B2, SENER and Nordex.
According to Sedigas’ new report ‘Study of biomethane production capacity in Spain,’ the country has the potential to produce 163 TWh/year of biomethane, which would cover around 45% of the national demand for natural gas and whose development could have meant savings of 4,000 million euros for consumers on their energy bills in 2022.
The H2 MOBILITY Deutschland initiative has put into operation Berlin’s fifth hydrogen station at the Shell filling station Tempelhofer Weg 102. It is available for refueling hydrogen vehicles at 350 bar (buses and trucks) and at 700 bar (passenger cars, light commercial vehicles and refuse trucks). It is conveniently located near the city motorway 100 and the A 113.
Province of Misiones’ Ahora Taxi program will subsidize up to 50% of the value of a new vehicle (including the installed CNG equipment and the corresponding identifying paint) with the car manufacturer’s commitment to take the used car as part of payment. The taxi owner has the option of paying the amount owed through a loan from Banco Macro.
Promoting the use of natural gas for vehicles, in addition to contributing to the improvement of air quality, will allow significant economic savings for users, such as private vehicles, interprovincial transport companies and public buses, among other productive sectors; thus impacting the economic reactivation of the Peruvian population.
The company has initiated the change of energy matrix towards a sustainable transport system with the help of Scania Peru. It has acquired 32 Scania CNG trucks, from the Green Efficiency line. This is the largest fleet of European brand natural gas trucks sold in Peru so far and will allow the company to supply its customers more efficiently by reducing its fuel costs.

It will feature 12 dispensers, with the capacity to fill over 500 heavy-duty vehicles per day with 100% renewable bio-CNG.
Sinoma Cargo International Nigeria Ltd. has fueled their LNG vehicle at the Greenville LNG station in Sagamu, Ogun state. Greenville is a pioneer LNG production and distribution company and uses an innovative mobile pipeline system to deliver fuel to its customers across the country with LNG-powered trucks.
The BNDES approved financing of R$ 80 million for UISA Geo Biogás S/A to build an industrial unit for the production of biomethane and electricity from sugarcane residues, in Mato Grosso. In the first phase, the plant will produce up to 11.4 million Nm³/year of biogas. The biomethane will be used to replace diesel in part of UISA’s truck fleet.
Raven SR Inc, Chevron New Energies and Hyzon Motors Inc. will develop a waste-to-hydrogen production facility in Richmond intended to supply the green fuel to transportation markets in Northern California. The project is expected to produce up to 2,400 metric-tons per year of renewable hydrogen.
North Yorkshire-based Campeys of Selby has expanded its non-fossil fuel fleet to over 10% with the addition of six new IVECO S-WAY 6×2 tractor units powered by biomethane. With this addition, Campeys operates 12 non-fossil fuel vehicles, which are part of the company’s strategy to transition to a net zero carbon emission fleet by 2030.
The time for subsidies was set to expire at the end of 2023, but increased renewable energy targets and subsidy budgets have made it possible to prolong the period until June 30, 2024, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Renewable energy used in road and rail transport must account for at least 14% of all energy consumed in the transport sector by 2030
SurFrigo has acquired 23 IVECO vehicles, including two Stralis CNG 300 AT trucks and one Daily 70C14 CNG van. The CNG Stralis has a 7.8-liter FPT Industrial Cursor 8 CNG engine with a power of 300 CV and a maximum torque of 1,200Nm, while the Daily CNG has a 3.0-liter FIC engine with a power of 136 HP and a maximum torque of 350Nm.
Technicians from Valeciaport, the National Hydrogen Center and Carburos Metálicos that participate in this initiative will supervise this operation that is carried out for the first time in a Spanish port. This refueling test will be the starting point for supplying hydrogen to the reach stacker and 4×4 tractor unit prototypes that will begin operations in the port this year.
Powered by the Next-Gen K-series 1.5-liter, Dual Jet, Dual VVT engine, the Grand Vitara S-CNG develops a peak power output of 64.6kW@5500rpm and max torque is rated at 121.5 Nm@4200rpm in CNG mode. Offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox, the new car delivers an excellent fuel-efficiency of 26.6 km/kg.
The biomethane will be used to feed OPAL Fuels transportation customers at the company’s CNG stations via the Peoples Gas (Florida’s largest natural gas distribution utility) network. When used as a vehicle fuel to displace diesel, this biomethane will avoid GHG emissions equivalent to achieving zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions from more than 380 heavy-duty trucks.
The new unit will join the two that Liberty RNG has operating in Wisconsin. These two Microbox-Bio units upgrade and compress biogas obtained from manure from two separate dairy farms. Liberty stated that they chose Galileo Technologies again due to the quality of its engineering and the results obtained in the two existing facilities.
The first CNG articulated buses to arrive in Palma are part of the second phase of the renewal of EMT Palma fleet, and will allow to increase the capacity of the vehicles by more than 30% and improve the service frequency. This phase also includes the arrival of four 8-meter CNG minibuses, five 12-meter hydrogen buses and 12 electric buses.
The KH-7 Epsilon Team experienced a dramatic change of scenery at the start of the Dakar, since the FIA cancelled the implementation of the T5.U Hydrogen category, motivating the creation of a new division: Challenge New Energy. This measure allows the Spanish team to officially stay in the race, but forces them to start all stages 15 minutes after the last participant.
The company announced it has been trialing a Volvo FH LNG tractor unit for over a month with fantastic results, helping reduce their carbon footprint and achieve their environmental goals. In March 2022, Moran also placed an order with Keltruck for 15 Scania CNG trucks, which will be delivered throughout this year.

It will add a network of +5,000 stations in Europe to market and distribute a number of sustainable fuels, including hydrogen, biomethane and HVO.
XCMG has delivered a batch of 100 hydrogen-powered trucks to the end client Mengxi Zhenghe Group to aid its construction of a mine near Ordos in China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region. Under a strategic cooperation blueprint with Sino-Synery, XCMG will deliver in excess of 1,000 hydrogen trucks in total to the company by 2025.
The City Council fulfills the promise made by its mayor Jose Luis Martínez-Almeida in 2020 that no municipal bus powered by this fuel would travel the streets of the city after 2023. With this removal, the current 100% clean fleet of the EMT is made up of 1,915 CNG buses and 180 electric buses. This year, the municipal company will also add the first 10 hydrogen buses.
The manufacturer supplied three trucks to Israel as part of a partnership between its Israeli agency Colmobil, hydrogen producer Bazan and hydrogen station operator Sonol to develop a hydrogen value chain in the region. The vehicles will be handed over to Colmobil, Bazan and Sonol, and will be put into commercial operations in the first quarter of 2023.
The Guwahati Smart City Limited, under its Smart City Mission, has procured these NGVs, which will be operated by Assam State Transport Corporation. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said this launch is a step towards gradual but firm mitigation of the impacts of climate change and global warming.
The company has unveiled a fleet of 10 LNG-powered vehicles, manufactured by Blue Energy Motors and operated by the logistics company GreenLine. JK Lakshmi Cement has always been at the forefront of initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint by operating in an energy-efficient way.
The zoo has announced the successful conversion of 10% of its vehicles to operate on natural gas in 2022, as part of the first phase of its plan to convert 25% of its fleet to this clean burning fuel. Al Ain Zoo owns 99 vehicles within its transport fleet for the use of employees and internal operations.
From now on, the Mugardos (A Coruña) plant will be able to operate not only large and medium methane tankers, but all types of vessels, even the smallest on the market. This action is part of the adaptation and modernization program of the plant, and will pave the way to develop a benchmark LNG hub in the northwest of the peninsula.
By making official the use of this car, a milestone that puts Chile at the Latin American vanguard, the Government seeks to promote the infrastructure and synergies necessary for the introduction of the hydrogen technology in the country. The Toyota Mirai has an initial autonomy of 400 km, which doubles (on average) that of a conventional electric vehicle.
CalBio announced a funding partnership, of up to $500 million, with Brookfield Renewable to scale its growth in renewable natural gas and other waste-to-energy opportunities. CalBio’s proven track record combined with Brookfield’s global reach and capital will accelerate the company’s expansion of decarbonization solutions and reduction in GHG emissions.
Spain: logistics expert invests in hydrogen trucks, will refuel at future network of 14 filling stations
Scale Gas has signed an agreement with Disfrimur whereby the Murcia-based transport company will decarbonize its operations by incorporating heavy vehicles powered by renewable hydrogen. Enagás’ subsidiary will supply this fleet through a new network of hydrogen stations located at Disfrimur’s operational bases throughout Spain.
30 Kent CNG buses will serve in the fleet of Autolinee Toscane, the leading transit operator that undertakes all transportation in the Tyrrhenian Sea coastal region, while 90 additional NGVs will be exported to Puglia, in southern Italy, and will provide passenger transportation services within the Department of Transport of the Puglia Region.
This new generation of 17 CNG vehicles, which will connect Madrid with the Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport, is an exercise in innovation by the EMT together with the Swedish manufacturer Scania and the coachbuilder Castrosúa. They will be added this month to line 200 and in March to the Exprés Aeropuerto line.
Japan’s first LNG-powered ferry ordered by MOL and operated by Ferry Sunflower received its first LNG supply at the Port of Beppu in Oita Prefecture from Kyuden. LNG was supplied via truck-to-ship —the first time in Japan— with a skid, which connected four tank trucks to the ferry. The vessel will be deployed on the Osaka-Beppu route starting on January 13.
The MINEM will allocate more than 800 million soles from the FISE to promote the development of infrastructure and growth of the users of this energy. Regarding the vehicle sector, which had significant growth in 2022, it is planned to allocate more than 125 million soles to the NGV Saving Program for the CNG conversion of private vehicles and public transport.
The Rhenus Group and Shell will be sharing ideas more closely in future in order to forge ahead with decarbonizing goods traffic on the roads. Experts from both companies recently discussed some initial ideas and specific measures such as alternative fuels and drive systems ranging from bio-LNG to hydrogen.
Equipped with CNG dispensers from the Argentina-based company Aspro, the new SCGÁS facility is strategically located in Araquari, on the BR 101 highway, km 56, the most important corridor in the State, which connects the large flow of heavy-duty vehicles between the states of the southern and southeastern regions.
A recent paper, authored by Floris Goedhart, shows that by 2050 bio-LNG can reduce GHG emissions in the transport sector by 95% to 174%. This scenario is particularly encouraging for the maritime sector as it meets the target of 75% GHG emissions reduction by 2050 set in EU legislation. Bio-LNG is readily available for use at scale and with infrastructure in place.
The new facility will provide an anticipated 1.4 million gallons of the clean fuel annually for Amazon’s +100 trucks and other fleets in the greater Chicago area, and is part of an agreement between Clean Energy and Amazon for Clean Energy to build 19 stations nationwide. It will allow to reduce carbon emissions by 15,219 MT metric tons.
Initially, it will be a two-year pilot starting in the first quarter of 2023, and its implementation will be with cargo trucks. The use of natural gas powered vehicles, as well as electrics and hybrids, are alternatives that some carriers have been implementing in the city. Therefore, the District wants to recognize those vehicle owners who have opted for these options.
The filling stations, expected to open between 2023 and the first quarter of 2024, will be located in Poland, France, the UK and Spain. They will have different capacities, thus adapting to the specific needs of each of their clients, from 200 to 1,600 kilos of hydrogen dispensed per day, which translates into filling 20-30 cars and 40-60 buses per day
In these projects, first biogas is produced from anaerobic digestion of cow manure. Bright supplies the biogas upgrading system with membrane technology to convert biogas to biomethane. After compression to bio-CNG, the fuel can be stored and transported. Through a mobile pipeline, Bioforce transports the bio-CNG to filling stations in Estonia’s capital.
