The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) continues to develop actions to contribute to the policy of widespread adoption of natural gas at the national level. For this, it will allocate more than 800 million soles (more than USD200 million) from the Energy Social Inclusion Fund (FISE) to promote the development of infrastructure and growth of the users of this energy.
In this sense, to contribute to the access of this public service, more than 520 million soles will be allocated to the BonoGas program so that more homes, SMEs, soup kitchens and other intuitions of a social nature can access financing for the construction of their natural gas facilities and thus enjoy the benefits of an economical, clean, safe and vital source of energy to achieve the energy transition in Peru.
Regarding the vehicle sector, which has had significant growth in 2022, it is planned to allocate more than 125 million soles to the NGV Saving Program for the CNG conversion of private vehicles and public transport, such as taxis and school buses. This will allow drivers to use a more environmentally friendly fuel and with significant economic savings of more than 50% in costs, positively impacting the basic family basket.
Likewise, to continue with the process of widespread adoption of natural gas and expansion of this public service in the central and southern regions, in the mountains and the jungle, 150 million soles will be allocated for the development of infrastructure, so that homes, vehicles, businesses and industries have this resource in the regions of Cusco, Ucayali and Ayacucho.
It is important to highlight that this process can be accelerated with the updating and approval of Bill No. 679/2021-PE, according to the proposal submitted by MINEM to the Congress of the Republic, through which additional measures are established to continue promoting the widespread use of natural gas, which will make it possible to generate mechanisms that facilitate the promotion and execution of projects and the use of FISE and SISE resources.
In this very promising scenario in terms of the growing adoption of natural gas, AltFuels Peru 2023 will be held from April 19 to 22, at Villa Complejo Ferial, in the city of Lima. The event will include conferences led by more than 70 speakers, experts in natural gas, alternative fuels and sustainable mobility, as well as an exhibition with more than 120 companies that will exhibit their latest generation products and services, including vehicles, engines, refueling equipment, components and conversion systems, among others.
