According to the government, the CBG Blending Obligation (CBO) will promote production and consumption of bio-CNG in India. The key objectives of the CBO include: stimulating demand for bio-CNG in CGD sector, importing substitution for LNG, saving in Forex, promoting circular economy and achieving the target of net zero emissions.
Natural gas motor fuel is once again equitably taxed in the State of Indiana relative to traditional motor fuels. Passage of House Bill 23-1454 ensures that state taxes on natural gas motor fuel will be calculated based on the diesel gallon equivalent actually sold at the fueling dispenser. The discrepancy first arose in 2015.
The new Renewable Natural Gas Incentive Act of 2023 (H.R. 2448) would create a $1.00 per gallon tax credit for sellers of biomethane used for transportation for 10 years, allowing businesses to maximize the credit’s effectiveness to reduce their emissions while investing in zero-emission vehicle infrastructure.
The European Parliament adopted its position on the Gas Decarbonisation Package, which takes stock of the Biomethane Action Plan and includes the requirement for Member States to set-up national strategies and to ensure regional mapping of highest production potential areas. The EBA welcomes the inclusion of 2030 mandatory biomethane target in the regulation.
Heavy-duty transport is a vital sector for the functioning of the internal market and a suitable regulatory framework shall support the development of clean vehicles using different technologies and fuels. The European Commission and industry leaders, committed to the green energy transition, have launched the Biomethane Industrial Partnership. This new public-private partnership was announced in the REPowerEU Plan and it aims to support the achievement of the target to increase annual production and use of biomethane to 35 billion cubic meters by 2030.
With escalating gas fuel prices, especially for LNG, economic dislocation in the transport sector is inevitable. Trucking companies must not be discouraged from considering cleaner fuel alternatives to diesel, like bio-LNG. The growth potential of biomethane production relies on a strong and sustainable NGV market.
The YPF Operators Association, through its Gas commission, promoter of the measure, welcomed the approval of the “NGV1 device” for fast refueling of CNG in heavy vehicles and considered it an advance for the future growth of the NGV market in heavy vehicles.
