Air Liquide developed a solution for the reuse of organic waste on farms: the AG050 and AG100 biomethane stations, which process the biogas derived from the decomposition of these elements and transform it into biomethane. This renewable natural gas can be used as a fuel in tractors, trucks, cars and other types of vehicles powered by CNG. By allowing farmers to benefit from a circular economy of sustainable fuel production on the farm, the solution contributes to the decarbonization of agriculture.
Biogas is a molecule generated from the processing of organic waste such as leaves, fruits and others. This gas is mainly composed of CH4 and CO2. The solution purifies biogas to produce biomethane, separating these gases using a proprietary membrane-based technology developed by Air Liquide.
The AG050 and AG100 biomethane stations will be installed to work in conjunction with the farm biodigester equipment. Its structure is made up of three components: pretreatment, which reduces the concentration of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), a harmful gas that can be generated during the decomposition of organic matter; purification, in which the pre-treated gas is compressed and passed through membrane modules, which separate CO2 and CH4. The gas resulting from this process, biomethane, is directed to the third part of the process, the fuel supply, which consists of storage cylinders and a dispenser to transfer fuel to NGVs.
The solution has the capacity to process up to 50 and 100 cubic meters of biogas per hour, generating approximately 30 and 60 cubic meters of biomethane, which can supply between 3 and 10 tractors per day depending on the activities.
“We develop and provide a sustainable solution for rural properties, guaranteeing autonomy in the production of sustainable fuel from organic waste processed in an environmentally correct way. We are globally committed to providing solutions that are at the same time safe, reliable and profitable and that meet the needs of our customers in all the areas in which we operate,” said Caio Mogyca, Director of Business Development – South America.
