Within the framework of “Posadas Futura”, a program that seeks to continue facing global and local challenges in the construction of alternative and sustainable development models, the municipality of the provincial capital announced the incorporation of two brand-new natural gas buses to the Integrated System of Metropolitan Transportation.
The Scania vehicles, which will be the first powered by CNG in Misiones, feature a 9-liter, five-cylinder engine and a power of 280 CV, which provides high torque at low revs and ensures lower fuel consumption. In addition to offering reduced CO2 emissions, the noise level emitted is also considerably lower. Fuel tanks are located on the roof, so as not to limit the space for passengers. The range is 290 kilometers.
Scania buses with Marcopolo bodywork and powered by 100% natural gas will be in circulation on the streets of Posadas within the framework of the tests that the manufacturer has been carrying out in terms of urban mobility with alternative fuels.
“We are analyzing incorporating CNG vehicles to achieve -in the short or medium term- a more environmentally friendly fleet,” said Rene Rotta, Manager of Tipoka S.A., one of the companies that make up the Integrated System of Metropolitan Transportation. He also explained that in order to advance with the incorporation of these units, they must negotiate with the province the installation of natural gas filling stations.
For his part, Andres Fialho, coordinator of the Integrated System of Metropolitan Transportation, pointed out that these investments are made to improve the quality of service, always seeking the triple impact of achieving: inclusion, comfort and care for the environment. He valued that CNG is a fuel that emits less polluting gases and that allows the province to move towards a sustainable transport system, reported the local newspaper Economis.
