The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) of Peru ratified its commitment to the widespread use of natural gas for vehicles through the NGV Savings program of the Energy Social Inclusion Fund (FISE), which finances the conversions of private cars and taxis, up to for an amount of S/ 4,000 (more than U$S 1,000). It is projected to reach more than 50,000 benefited users in 2023, for which a budget of S/ 400 million (U$S 104 million) will be allocated.
Likewise, the ministry indicated that it is finishing preparing the procedure to execute the budget of S/ 200 million (U$S 52 million) to finance CNG conversions of vehicles that run on LPG, which was assigned to MINEM through Emergency Decree No. 109-2021.
This bonus will allow a discount of S/ 2,000 on the cost of the vehicle conversion service, without charge to return by the beneficiary. The rest of the cost will be financed under the regular scheme of the NGV Savings program, a financing without initial fee or interest and with repayment within a maximum period of 3 years through refueling carried out by the beneficiary.
The MINEM confirms that the conversions will contribute to increasing the number of vehicles that use natural gas, allowing them to access an energy source that will provide savings of 50% compared to gasoline or diesel.
It is important to mention that, despite the consequences caused by the health and economic crisis that affected the country, FISE has not stopped providing constant support to the population through its different programs. For this reason, it works to promote the widespread adoption of natural gas and planned the construction of more than 1,416 km of natural gas distribution networks and the connection of 280,478 residential users by 2023.
In this very promising scenario in terms of the growing adoption of natural gas, AltFuels Peru 2023 will be held from April 19 to 22, at Villa Complejo Ferial, in the city of Lima. The event will include conferences led by more than 70 speakers, experts in natural gas, alternative fuels and sustainable mobility, as well as an exhibition with more than 120 companies that will exhibit their latest generation products and services, including vehicles, engines, refueling equipment, components and conversion systems, among others.
