In compliance with the State policy that promotes the widespread adoption of natural gas throughout the country, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) signed an inter-institutional cooperation agreement with the Regional Government of Puno. The aim is developing actions so that Puno and Juliaca has cheap and clean energy for vehicular, domestic and industrial use, which will contribute to reducing energy costs, boosting the productive sectors and supporting economic reactivation.
The concretization of this agreement is a management promoted by the governor Germán Alejo, after visiting CNG stations and conversion centers in the city of Cusco, with the purpose of promoting the widespread use of this clean energy in the Puno region.
Through the document, actions will be promoted that contribute to the reduction of energy gaps, encouraging inclusion and security. The MINEM will make viable the development of infrastructure projects for the provision of the natural gas distribution public service, that is, the installation of refueling stations, in addition to promoting and financing vehicle conversions.
It should be noted that, since April, the MINEM has allocated a budget of S/ 150 million (USD 38 million) to execute the Special Infrastructure Project for the promotion of natural gas in the interior regions of the country, which includes the Puno region.
Meanwhile, the Regional Government will be in charge of managing and coordinating with the local governments and communities of the region the timely processing of authorizations, permits and necessary facilities for the development of the infrastructure required for the widespread use of natural gas. It will also develop strategies for the implementation of projects related to the transportation and distribution of natural gas, as well as the socialization of the use of this fuel.
Likewise, it assumes the commitment to develop training programs for technicians and professionals in the region leading to the formation of local technical staff capable of operating the technologies, within the framework of the object of the agreement.
The development of the natural gas industry seeks for the country to have a diversified and efficient energy matrix, avoiding dependence on fuels derived from oil in the future and valuing an energy resource whose price is accessible to the Peruvian economy.
In this very promising scenario in terms of the growing adoption of natural gas, AltFuels Peru 2023 will be held from April 19 to 22, at Villa Complejo Ferial, in the city of Lima. The event will include conferences led by more than 70 speakers, experts in natural gas, alternative fuels and sustainable mobility, as well as an exhibition with more than 120 companies that will exhibit their latest generation products and services, including vehicles, engines, refueling equipment, components and conversion systems, among others.
