Iveco premiered in Chile the LNG version of its S-WAY tractor-trailer, the flagship vehicle of the Italian manufacturer’s heavy-duty range, which Andes Motor represents and distributes. The arrival of the model in the country will allow Transportes San Gabriel to increase its natural gas-powered fleet with 15 new vehicles.
Iveco’s Commercial Director for Latin America Reinaldo Rossoni was present at the delivery of the 15 LNG trucks to the transport company and stressed that the reliability of this technology is fully validated by the European company. “Customers can be sure that they are acquiring a high performance product. In addition, they will have all the after-sales assistance from Iveco and Andes Motor,” he indicated.
For his part, the Deputy Manager of Trucks for Iveco in Chile Carlos Neibirt commented: “The arrival of the LNG-powered S-WAY in the domestic market also marks its debut in Latin America, which is a very important milestone and a source of pride. Andes Motor is constantly innovating to introduce new propulsion alternatives that provide benefits to its customers, and this highly efficient version is a new contribution in this regard.”
In turn, the Manager of Andes Motor Trucks Cristian Alonso highlighted that the LNG Iveco S-WAY has “great advantages in comfort, safety, driving and maintenance, which are carried out in longer periods.” He also stressed that about a third of the 120 vehicles that Transportes San Gabriel operates run on LNG and carry the Iveco logo. “They are a very important client for us and acquired these trucks to work with large Chilean companies that are interested in contributing to a cleaner environment for Chile and the world,” he added.
The S-WAY is a natural gas-powered truck specifically designed for long-distance transport, with best-in-class autonomy thanks to ranges of up to 1,600 kilometers, and state-of-the-art tanks for a maximum of 1,080 liters. It integrates a silent mode, with which it only emits 71 decibels (dB), according to the Piek Quiet Truck test.
Iveco equipped its LNG models with a wide range of engines that guarantee clean and silent operation, adapting to any need. The 460 LNG variant available in Chile, with a 4×2 layout, has a Cursor 13 engine (12.9 liters) and boasts the best consumption efficiency, thanks to an improved combustion process and weight optimization. This configuration delivers 460 HP and a torque of 2,000 Nm between 1,100 and 1,620 rpm.
