Operadora Portuaria Centroamericana (OPC), the Honduran business unit of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) that operates in Puerto Cortés, recently welcomed the inaugural call for Seaboard Blue, the first container ship in the world to be converted from conventional diesel to LNG.
Seaboard Blue docked in Honduras under the North and Central America service of Seaboard Marine, a shipping company that provides direct and regular service between North America, the Caribbean Basin, Central America and South America. The vessel, which was refitted in 2017 to run on LNG, has a capacity of 1,000 TEU, so it can transport a large amount of cargo over long distances.
The arrival of the Seaboard Blue in Puerto Cortés demonstrates the trust placed in the Honduran enclave. Representatives of OPC and Seaboard Honduras received the Captain of the vessel and then visited the ship.
Seaboard Blue is designed to comply with all relevant safety and environmental standards. She is equipped with modern navigation and communication systems, including radar, GPS and VHF radio, which guarantee the safety of the ship. Her crew is also trained in firefighting, first aid and other emergency procedures to ensure the safety of the vessel and its crew.
It has a DWT of 13,200 tons, a length of 151.70 m and a beam of 23.80 m. In addition, she is equipped with 250 refrigerated plugs.
