The Puno Regional Government is committed to the widespread use of natural gas for vehicle use and will promote the installation of CNG refueling stations in the cities of Puno and Juliaca. To achieve the region’s access to natural gas, a framework agreement will be signed with the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), regional governor Germán Alejo Apaza reported.
To advance this initiative, Apaza met with the regional governor of Cusco, Jean Paul Benavente García, and the Manager of Institutional Relations at Pluspetrol, Luis Daniel Guerra Zela, in the city of Cusco, to share the experience of the CNG stations that serve more than 1,200 vehicles daily. The objective is to transfer and repeat the experience of Cusco, the same one that will generate great benefits with the use of CNG.
“From the Puno Regional Government, we are starting the work to have this in the main cities, such as Puno and Juliaca; we are also projecting the distribution of natural gas in homes. The energy resources that Peru has, must be taken advantage of,” said the governor.
“We are working for the development of the region and more for those who have less. It is important to find the appropriate mechanisms to be able to access essential products and natural gas at lower and more comfortable costs,” he added.
For his part, the representative of Pluspetrol, company that extracts gas from Camisea and converts it into natural gas for vehicles, assumed the commitment to guarantee the supply of an economical fuel in the Puno region.
Guerra Zela also pointed out that Law 679, on the widespread use of natural gas, was approved, which states that in regions that do not have a gas distributor, as is the case of Puno and Cusco, the Peruvian state will seek a mechanism to stabilize prices and finance the pipelines to carry the massification of gas.
