In a commitment to take care of the environment and future generations and reduce its carbon footprint, Copetran announced the launch of a pilot test with a CNG vehicle, which will be the beginning of a new stage for the Santander-based company specialized in land, parcel, cargo and tourism transport.
This pilot project will allow Copetran to implement the use of clean energy in its fleets and be a pioneer in the adoption of new propulsion technologies. The tests begin with a natural gas bus that will initially cover a private route.
“Based on the environmental objectives established by the company, it was decided to develop a new strategy that seeks to be more environmentally friendly and reduce the polluting impact of vehicles,” explained Copetran Manager Wilson Arizmendi.
A first stage has just begun, in which the bus is identified with an exterior design alluding to the environmental proposal, with green tones and a seal that identifies it as “eco”, specifically referring to the use of natural gas.
The vehicle will be made available to the multinational company Drummond to transport the employees who work in the Cesar Department. This was manufactured with specific characteristics requested by the client. Although it is a private agreement, Copetran’s projections point to the consolidation of a commercial fleet of natural gas-powered vehicles in the future and to cover the different existing national routes, in terms of passenger transport.
These pilot tests will serve to gather important information for the next massive implementation of said propulsion technology. Measurements and monitoring will be carried out to determine how many buses are required to start large-scale operations, reported El Carro Colombiano.
