Sustainability is a priority on the Aceros Arequipa Corporation’s agenda and a core part of its 2030 strategy. Along these lines and with the aim of continuing to strengthen its environmental commitment, being more efficient in the use of resources, has initiated the change of energy matrix towards a sustainable transport system with the help of Scania Peru.
Thus, through its company Transportes Barcino, the Aceros Arequipa Corporation has acquired 32 Scania CNG trucks, from the Green Efficiency line. This is the largest fleet of European brand natural gas trucks sold in Peru so far and will allow the company to supply its customers more efficiently by reducing its operating fuel costs.
“Through the use of alternative fuels, we seek to generate the least possible impact on the environment, managing to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 20%, as well as lower noise pollution,” said Tulio Silgado, General Manager of Aceros Arequipa.
The 32 Scania model G410 6X4 units are equipped with engines specially manufactured to work with CNG, complying with the highest Euro 6 emission level standard. In addition, they feature Scania’s advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that help cope with the high demands on the road through an electronic system of software, sensors and cameras that address interactions with vulnerable road users and maintain distance from the vehicle in heavy traffic, providing greater safety for drivers.
“At Aceros Arequipa we seek to generate alternatives that allow a lower impact on the environment. We want to be a carbon neutral company by 2050, that is, our carbon emissions are zero,” added Silgado.
In this very promising scenario in terms of the growing adoption of natural gas, AltFuels Peru 2023 will be held from April 19 to 22, at Villa Complejo Ferial, in the city of Lima. The event will include conferences led by more than 70 speakers, experts in natural gas, alternative fuels and sustainable mobility, as well as an exhibition with more than 120 companies that will exhibit their latest generation products and services, including vehicles, engines, refueling equipment, components and conversion systems, among others.
