The Camisea Consortium, operated by Pluspetrol, announced the execution of the “Corredor Camisea GNL,” a new project that seeks to contribute to the efforts of widespread adoption of natural gas in Peru, this time in the transport of heavy cargo that circulates in the south of the country. The initiative will be carried out through an agreement with Limagas Natural.
The corridor will include four LNG service stations, located in Cusco, Arequipa, Nazca and southern Lima, which will cover the main transportation routes in the south of the country, according to Pablo Campana, Pluspetrol’s Large Customers Manager. The project also includes an investment of USD 2.4 million, by the Camisea Consortium, for the incorporation of the first 120 LNG-powered trucks.
The “Corredor Camisea GNL” joins other initiatives promoted by Camisea in search of bringing natural gas closer to more Peruvians, such as the “Bono Camisea GNV”, a non-reimbursable amount of up to $15,000 granted to carriers for the acquisition of new gas trucks or buses.
Campana also referred to the efforts being promoted for the widespread use of natural gas in Cusco, the region where the Camisea gas field is located. He recalled that, in joint work with the Cusco government and in alliance with Limagas, two CNG stations have been installed (one in San Sebastián and another in San Jerónimo), while there is a third to be launched soon in Quillabamba.
Likewise, he mentioned that due to the great reception and success that this project, called “Gas to Cusco”, has had, the feasibility of expanding the scope with a new service station is already being evaluated, to satisfy the growing demand. The region already has more than 3,000 CNG vehicles, and a natural gas consumption of approximately 12,000 m3 per day, a higher figure than the national average per station.
