The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes Víctor -Ito- Bisonó led an act in which the Martí group, which represents the IVECO brand in the Dominican Republic, delivered a fleet of 13 IVECO X-Way natural gas trucks to the multinational TotalEnergies. During the ceremony, he stated that since President Luis Abinader took office, he has promoted cleaner energy and more environmentally friendly fuels.
The delivery of the 13 CNG-powered vehicles is the first of its kind in Central America and the Caribbean and is expected to support TotalEnergies’ ambition to be the leading player in responsible energy and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
“And not only because of the economic aspect, since we all know what the pandemic was and what the war in Russia and Ukraine has been, but also because of the responsibility of leaving a world much better than what we found it. And this new model of natural gas trucks supports this commitment,” said the minister.
He added that in 2021 his ministry delivered 100 million pesos to the Banco de Reservas for a trust called “Más Gas” that seeks to stimulate the conversion of the Dominican Republic’s truck fleet to natural gas. He also highlighted the bet made by the private sector, with whom the government has been making alliances, for the use of natural gas.
“Today we made the first delivery of IVECO natural gas trucks to TotalEnergies, a big step for our vehicle portfolio. It fills us with pride to be part of TotalEnergies’ vision of transformation towards carbon neutrality, promoting care for the environment and sustainable mobility,” commented Christian Cabral, CEO of the Martí vehicle portfolio.
