IVECO is supporting the Giro d’Italia 2023 with two Daily and one IVECO S-Way LNG supplied for the sporting event. During the 21 stages of the event, starting on 6 May from the Costa dei Trabocchi (Abruzzo) and arriving in Rome on 28 May, IVECO will escort the best cyclists in the world.
In fact, during each day of competition, the IVECO S-Way LNG powered by biomethane from Vulcangas is present at the head of the caravan, the popular parade of decorated vehicles that precedes the competitors to create a festive atmosphere music and entertainment.
In line with the values of a sustainable sport such as cycling, the IVECO S-Way LNG carries out various steps towards decarbonization also during the Giro d’Italia, thanks to a mature and available technology such as biomethane, which allows achieve a reduction of emissions of up to 121%, as demonstrated by the study prepared by the CNR, the National Research Council.
The truck, adapted to show off a pink livery in honor of the Giro d’Italia, will refuel bio-LNG at the different stages of the Giro d’Italia throughout the national territory. Specifically, thanks to the collaboration with Vulcangas, the vehicle will be fueled at the main filling stations along the route, namely San Vitaliano, Forlì, Porcari, Turin and Agrate Brianza.
With a range of 1,600 km and an engine that guarantees excellent torque even on the narrowest paths and on secondary roads that are difficult to reach, the IVECO S-Way once again proves to be the most suitable vehicle for long-haul transport guarantees maximum performance for the environment and for people.
The IVECO S-Way LNG will complete the entire route of the Giro d’Italia, equal to approximately 7,000 km in total, with a net share of CO2 emissions close to zero, thanks to the locally-produced biomethane, a technology which helps decarbonize the territory, creating new jobs and enhancing waste.
Specifically, traveling 7,000 km with a diesel-powered vehicle results in CO2 emissions of over 5 tons, while carrying out the same mileage with a biomethane-powered IVECO S-Way LNG results in CO2 emissions of around 250 kg, a value that denotes the environmental benefits of this resource.
“For us at IVECO it is an honor to supply our vehicles to the Giro d’Italia, taking an active part in a sensational sporting event that makes the hearts of our customers and our drivers beat faster,” said Massimiliano Perri, General Manager, IVECO Market Italy. “We are pleased to make the reliability and resistance of our vehicles available to such a beloved and lively event, and we are even more proud to do so in a sustainable way, thanks to the biomethane IVECO S-Way LNG which, in addition to leading the caravan, also leads the way of change.”
