Fercam has launched the “Zero Emission Groupage”. It is an innovative and scalable groupage transport service that aims at drastically reducing emissions in the well-to-wheel cycle, combining several factors at the same time: cutting-edge vehicles, biofuels and renewable energy. The project includes IVECO and Edison Energia, which are contributing their know-how how and technologically innovative solutions to the decarbonization objectives of the logistics and transport services offered by Fercam.
The initiative between Milan and Rome is the first complete groupage line, from the first to the last mile, to be structured with a view to zeroing emissions. This is made possible by the use of vehicles powered by clean energy, including biomethane, which is derived from non-fossil sources only. Finally, thanks to initiatives to offset residual emissions, which can be implemented in collaboration with customers, it is possible to achieve the goal of carbon neutral transport.
“Our first groupage line aiming at carbon neutrality is now active between the cities of Rome and Milan,” said Hannes Baumgartner, CEO of FERCAM. “This first experience will provide us with data and guide us for subsequent connections, which we plan to activate in the near future. Our Zero Emission Groupage is a project through which we aim to totally zero emissions, thanks to the partnership with key players in the supply chain who share our same objectives and our long-range vision.”
The project includes the IVECO Daily powered by bio-CNG, for urban and suburban distribution, and the IVECO S-WAY powered by bio-LNG and bio-CNG, for connections between Fercam branches. “IVECO has once again wanted to renew its multi-technological vocation, thanks to a range suitable for any type of mission. Thanks to this pioneering approach, we are now able to support our partners Fercam and Edison in the decarbonization of the entire logistics chain,” stated Massimiliano Perri, General Manager of IVECO Italy.
For its part, Edison Energia will supply the bio-CNG and bio-LNG at the refueling stations identified jointly with Fercam. “This collaboration sees us engaged as a supplier of biomethane. Furthermore, through the use of the Edison Card fuel card, we efficiently support Fercam in accounting for the bio-LNG consumption of its vehicles. We started from Rome and Milan, but the goal is to extend the collaboration and replicate this model of sustainable mobility at other Fercam distribution lines,” commented Davide Macor, Director of B2B Market, Edison Energia.
