International Breweries Plc, member of the AB InBev Group, the world’s largest beer maker with over 500 beer brands, has launched a new fleet of CNG-powered vehicles to distribute its products across the country. Over a period of three years, the company will be acquiring a total of 540 NGVs, which will be delivered in batches of 180 vehicles per year.
This is a major step in the International Breweries’ commitment to reducing their carbon footprint and improving their environmental sustainability. “The launch of natural gas trucks is just one of the many ways we are contributing to the development of Nigeria to reach net zero emissions by 2060,” said the company in its social media. “We are extremely proud to be contributing towards the broader global sustainable development agenda while building a resilient supply and distribution chain, thriving communities and a healthier natural environment.”
“As a forward-looking organization, we consistently explore ways to improve our operations and reduce the environmental impact of our activities, and our switch to natural gas-powered trucks is a significant step in achieving both of these goals. By using CNG as fuel, our trucks emit significantly fewer pollutants than traditional diesel engines. This will help us reduce our carbon footprint and support Nigeria’s efforts to address climate change,” said Tony Agah, Supply Director, International Breweries Plc.
International Breweries owns an estimated 900 heavy goods trucks across the country. The company’s focus is to convert 20% of trucks in its fleet into natural gas vehicles on an annual basis.
