Cálidda and Grifos Espinoza (GESA) have put into operation the first LNG station in Peru open to the public. The facility is located at kilometer 27.5 of the Panamericana Norte highway, in the District of Puente Piedra, Department of Lima. The initiative had the support of the national government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM).
According to Cálidda, this opening will have a great impact on caring for the environment and on the advancement of sustainable mobility, promoting clean and economical Peruvian energy, which gives heavy cargo transport fleets a range of up to 1,600 km. Likewise, the use of LNG reduces polluting emissions by 90% versus the use of diesel.
“I am very happy to participate in this inauguration. The widespread growth of natural gas is part of the government program of President Dina Boluarte. We are in charge of promoting the use of natural gas at the country level, it is an available resource that we should use, since it is a clean and cheap fuel,” said the Minister of Energy and Mines Oscar Vera Gargurevich.
“Thanks to its excellent and strategic location, this operation will facilitate the creation of a green LNG corridor, which will benefit heavy cargo transportation vehicles,” commented Martín Mejía del Carpio, Cálidda’s General Director.
The Chairman of the Board of GESA Pedro Espinoza added: “We are proud to be part of this alliance with Cálidda. Today I am pleased to invite all businessmen to use this noble and economical fuel for their LNG trucks and buses.”
The service station, whose construction involved an investment of US$ 1 million, will operate under the name of Cálidda Energía, a Cálidda subsidiary focused on developing new businesses related to comprehensive energy solutions.
Currently, five brands of truck manufacturers already have LNG technology in Peru, including Scania.
In this very promising scenario in terms of the growing adoption of natural gas, AltFuels Peru 2023 will be held from April 19 to 22, at Villa Complejo Ferial, in the city of Lima.
