The Chilean company Lipigas, through its subsidiary Lima Gas, has acquired 60% of the shares of Limagas Natural Movilidad, which is dedicated to the construction and operation of LNG and CNG service stations for trucks and other vehicles, as well as other businesses related to the commercialization of LNG for use in other types of transport such as maritime and mining.
Lipigas plans to invest US$2.5 million in 2023 to develop the first LNG fueling stations for long-distance transportation. The investment is part of the company’s experience in the use of LNG in heavy trucks in Chile and the possibilities offered by the decision of the successive governments of Peru to promote the use of natural gas produced in the country.
“Lipigas is developing a corporate strategy of transformation, growth and diversification of the business for the coming years, which will allow it to continue being a leading company in the energy sector, prepared to take on the new opportunities that are being generated in the energy business and in others where it can take advantage of the capabilities and tools it has developed over the years. We see great potential for growth in Peru and our strategy will seek to continue increasing our participation in this market,” said the General Manager of Empresas Lipigas Ángel Mafucci.
The acquisition is in line with the work Lipigas has carried out over the last year on the use of LNG in cargo transportation. In September 2021, it opened its first service station in Chile for heavy-duty trucks that operate 100% on LNG, located in the offices of Transportes San Gabriel, in Linares, Maule Region (see photo). The facility allows the deployment of the largest LNG fleet in the country with a range of up to 1,600 kilometers on Route 5 South.
Lipigas is developing a strategy that aims to achieve a relevant position by 2030 in the Latin American energy field, as well as to expand into other business areas adjacent to its capabilities.
In this very promising scenario in terms of the growing adoption of natural gas, AltFuels Peru 2023 will be held from April 19 to 22, at Villa Complejo Ferial, in the city of Lima. The event will include conferences led by more than 70 speakers, experts in natural gas, alternative fuels and sustainable mobility, as well as an exhibition with more than 120 companies that will exhibit their latest generation products and services, including vehicles, engines, refueling equipment, components and conversion systems, among others.
