The Port Authority of A Coruña held an event to present the pilot experience of a bus powered by renewable hydrogen, within the framework of “A Coruña Green Port”, which focuses the port’s strategy in the field of new energies and the decarbonisation of the industry. The test routes with passengers will be carried out on line 1 of urban transport in A Coruña, which is operated by Compañía de Tranvías, which is also part of this project. The companies Repsol, Enerfín and Caetano also participate.
Repsol made this pilot experience possible by installing the first hydrogen station to be set up in a Galician port, and one of the first at a national level, in the Outer Port. Caetano has loaned the bus during the testing period, which will last around a week, allowing the operation of the vehicle to be tested and, as the President of the Port Authority Martín Fernández Prado pointed out, to bring citizens and companies from A Coruña closer together this technology that is called to become a great protagonist of the energy transition.
One of the main lines in the energy transition plan of the Port of A Coruña is precisely the green hydrogen value chain, both in the industrial and mobility fields. For this last field, the “H2 Mobility” Group has been set up, with the participation of Compañía de Tranvías, the engineering company Avia and the energy company Enerfín, which will generate green hydrogen in Punta Langosteira using the energy produced by the wind farm Inditex. The group opts to receive Next Generation funds in the section “Pioneers”, with the aim of incorporating the use of green hydrogen in transport, mainly trucks and buses, and thus contributing to the decarbonization of port companies and the metropolitan area in general.
Fernández Prado expressed his confidence that very soon new companies will join this group, while he especially thanked all the support provided by the Xunta de Galicia in the innovation projects promoted by the Port Authority. The Autonomous Administration was represented by the Regional Minister of the Sea Rosa Quintana, who stressed that this is an important day for A Coruña and for Arteixo, citites that house the port facilities and that were represented by the Mayor Carlos Calvelo, in the case of Arteixo, and by the first Deputy Mayor Juan Ignacio Borrego, in A Coruña.
