Gasum, Pavilion Energy and CNOOC Gas and Power Group will collaborate to support the global LNG bunker supply network for their customers in key LNG-bunker ready ports that include the Baltic and North Sea ECA (North-West Europe); key Chinese ports such as Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Ningbo; as well as Singapore.
The Salamanca is Brittany Ferries’ first LNG-powered ship and will leave the Port Bilbao on Sundays and Thursdays bound for the Irish port of Rosslare. The shipping company’s next LNG-fueled ferry, the Santoña, will join the fleet in 2023. In addition, it has invested in two LNG hybrid vessels that will arrive in 2024 and 2025.
Attero, Nordsol, and Titan have joined forces to achieve a decentralized production of bio-LNG for use in the maritime industry. The bio-LNG production plant will be located at the facility of waste processor Attero in the Netherlands. The FirstBio2Shipping project is set to deliver the first bio-LNG early 2024.
Scale Gas has received funding from the Spanish Ministry of Transport to boost the construction of a bunkering vessel for the supply of LNG and bio-LNG in the Canary Islands. This project, ‘Net Zero hive Canarias,’ is part of the ‘Net Zero hive’ initiative promoted by Enagás in its commitment to sustainability and to promote decarbonization in the maritime sector.
This plant will be able to produce some 15,900 cubic meters of bio-LNG, which represents 25% of the fuel that is supplied annually to the ships that bunker in Barcelona. The production of biomethane will be possible thanks to the transformation of between 50,000 and 60,000 tons of organic waste per year.
The Shanghai-based Gas Carrier and Alternative Fuels Expert Team will support key stakeholders amid strong growth in two thriving markets in China: large gas carriers and new alternative fuel vessels. China’s shipbuilding industry has made great progress in recent years, scaling up its value chains to more advanced ships powered by clean fuels such as LNG.
JAX LNG, a small-scale LNG facility near the St. Johns River, recently welcomed NYK LINE’s Sakura Leader for the ship’s inaugural call to Jacksonville. Sakura Leader offloaded cargo at the Jacksonville Port Authority’s Talleyrand Marine Terminal where JAX LNG completed its first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering of the Japanese vessel.
On October 27, the Hydrotug arrived in the port of Ostend, where the hydrogen system will be further installed and tested by CMB.TECH. Expected to be fully operational in Antwerp by 2023, the tug is part of an integrated greening program for the Port of Antwerp-Bruges fleet and will help the port to be climate-neutral by 2050.
The partnership with Chantiers de l’Atlantique has resulted in the building of the most innovative cruise ship to date for the MSC Cruises fleet. On top of immediate ground-breaking advances in terms of emission reduction and energy efficiency, MSC World Europa also paves the way towards the uptake of carbon-neutral synthetic and other alternative fuels as soon as they are available at scale.
Endesa continues with the installation work of its LNG supply plant at the Los Barrios port terminal (Cadiz), as part of its energy transition and decarbonization strategy to reduce emissions into the atmosphere, and has received four storage tanks. This project involves an investment of almost 35 million euros in its initial phase.
