The Regional Government of Cusco signed an agreement with Consorcio Camisea, led by Pluspetrol, to promote the implementation of LNG. This agreement will allow the investment of USD 50,000 to encourage the use of compressed and/or liquid natural gas in mass urban passenger transport, heavy transport, as well as for solid waste collection trucks in the Cusco region.
“We need these types of long-range technologies. Thus, this heavy duty transport can go from Cusco to Lima carrying the fuel from Camisea,” said the Governor of Cusco Jean Paul Benavente García.
Through the agreement, the Regional Government of Cusco undertakes to implement a plan for the promotion and widespread adoption of natural gas from Camisea and to provide facilities to make viable the requirements demanded by the execution of the project. For its part, Consorcio Camisea will finance the corresponding feasibility and sustainability studies.
Camisea highlighted the benefits of this project, stating that this sector of carriers in the region will have access to a clean, economic fuel, with stable prices, widely available and produced in Peru, all of this aligned with the interests of the State that seeks to promote natural gas nationwide.
“Consorcio Camisea reaffirms its commitment to support the mass use of natural gas in the Cusco region. As an example, not only is the signing of this agreement, but also the commissioning of two natural gas refueling stations in Cusco and a third one that will soon be inaugurated in Quillabamba; as well as the almost 1,400 taxi vehicles converted to CNG,” said the representative of Pluspetrol, operator of Consorcio Camisea.
In this very promising scenario in terms of the growing adoption of natural gas, AltFuels Peru 2023 will be held from April 19 to 22, at Villa Complejo Ferial, in the city of Lima. The event will include conferences led by more than 70 speakers, experts in natural gas, alternative fuels and sustainable mobility, as well as an exhibition with more than 120 companies that will exhibit their latest generation products and services, including vehicles, engines, refueling equipment, components and conversion systems, among others.
