The Community of Madrid advances in its commitment to decarbonize public transport and to deploy a zero emission bus fleet by 2050. This was explained by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, David Pérez, after having signed an action protocol between the Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM) and Repsol, by which the different solutions for mobility will be evaluated: electrification, hydrogen and renewable fuels.
The purpose is to continue working for innovation, efficiency and respect for the environment, using the most advanced technology to obtain the best energy solutions, together with this global company that markets products in more than 100 countries.
“58% of the total fleet that circulates in the region moves with emission-free energy, including the capital,” commented Pérez and added that the alliance with Repsol introduces “the importance of electrification, hydrogen and alternative fuels, such as advanced biofuels and synthetic fuels.”
On the other hand, the Minister of Transport pointed out that earlier this year the Community of Madrid launched in Torrejón de Ardoz the first hydrogen-powered bus in the region, which provides service to urban line 4 of the concessionaire company Alsa.
Within the process of renewing the vehicles of the CRTM, the community incorporated 24 new CNG intercity buses through the concessionaire company Martín. These vehicles allow CO2 emissions to be reduced by 20% compared to buses that run on diesel, and particles and nitrogen oxides by 85%, in addition to reducing noise by 50%.
