The Mayor of Medellín Daniel Quintero Calle received 19 natural gas vehicles that will provide service on the routes of Emvarias, a subsidiary of Grupo EPM, and that will allow progress in the process of renewing its fleet with more ecological units. With these new trucks, Medellín already has 42 of the plan of 62 CNG vehicles that are expected to become operational this year.
In addition, this second batch of Emvarias compactor vehicles will allow the city to go from two to three days of ordinary waste collection starting in January 2023. Currently, Medellín has two weekly frequencies for the collection of household waste, which will change completely from 2023 with a third route that will reinforce this task to facilitate the service and for users to live in cleaner neighborhoods. Likewise, the service will be unified with two shifts, day and night.
“These are new natural gas vehicles with Euro 6 technology, the least polluting in the world, and Emviarias continues to constantly bet on rethinking the challenges of the city in order to continue advancing,” said the Manager of Emvarias, Grupo EPM, Carlos Borja Jimenez.
“We continue with the renovation of the Emvarias collection trucks. Today we are delivering to the city 19 completely new natural gas vehicles with the highest technical and technological standards that will help reduce the ecological footprint,” said Juan David Duque, Secretary of the Medellín City Council.
The new trucks were delivered by Kenworth de la Montaña, they are 100% natural gas powered and environmentally friendly. They are equipped with GPS, have ABS anti-lock brakes and feature an automatic transmission for greater driving ease.
