US: Illinois-based public transport operator receives funding to replace diesel buses

Sangamon Mass Transit District (SMTD) received $5.9 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Low-No Emissions Bus Program, which will allow to replace eight of their diesel vehicles with four natural gas buses and four hybrids. Currently, SMTD runs 22 CNG buses.

Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL) signed an agreement to launch a pilot project to develop a hydrogen fuel cell truck for mining logistics and transportation with Ashok Leyland and Ballard Power. The vehicle, scheduled to be launched in India in 2023, will weigh 55 tons, have three hydrogen tanks, and a 200-km working range.

The President of the Council of Ministers Alberto Otárola referred to the widespread adoption of natural gas and said that the Ministry of Energy and Mines will promote the expansion of the current natural gas network with an investment of 491 million soles. He added that, until December 2022, 370,000 vehicles were converted to CNG.
