Repsol and Nortegas have put into operation the first natural gas station in the Autonomous Community of Cantabria, located at the Repsol service station in Ojáiz (Santander) and which will contribute to the decarbonization of mobility in the region. The Minister of Industry, Tourism, Innovation, Transport and Commerce of the Government of Cantabria, Javier López Marcano, attended the opening ceremony.
Marcano expressed his satisfaction about the initiative, since the sustainable mobility objectives of Nortegas and Repsol coincide with those of his ministry in the energy field and in the defense of sustainable mobility (powered by electric energy, hydrogen and natural gas), and hoped that the “bold and innovative” efforts of both companies will help to comply with the various agreements and environmental strategies signed nationally and internationally by the Government of Cantabria.
The new CNG refueling point has the capacity to meet the demand of all types of vehicles that use this clean fuel, both passenger cars and short and medium-distance transport distribution vehicles, and joins the filling stations that Repsol and Nortegas have already opened in Sestao (Vizcaya), Oiartzun (Guipúzcoa), Gijón (Asturias), Madrid, Vitoria (Álava), Logroño (La Rioja) and Avilés (Asturias). To these eight stations, three more will be added in the coming months, which will be located in Vigo, La Coruña and Pamplona. By the end of 2023, 11 facilities are expected to be in operation.
“The debut in Cantabria with this new supply point means for Nortegas to complete the presence of CNG stations throughout the Cantabrian corridor, as part of our commitment to promote environmentally responsible fuels, with a key role in the decarbonization of mobility. This station, together with the rest we have in Spain, will serve in the future to drive biomethane, a renewable fuel that promotes the circular economy and is key to reaching the horizon of 2050 with a completely carbon neutral economy,” said Javier Contreras, CEO of Nortegas.
“This new facility will help the company to continue positioning this ecological fuel as an alternative in transportation, reinforcing Repsol’s position as a multi-energy company and with the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050, being the first company in the sector to adopt this ambitious project,” commented Sara Martín Cabrera, Repsol’s Head of Natural Gas Vehicle Business Development.
