Since the beginning of September, Coopercarga Logística’s first six Scania trucks powered by natural gas have been circulating in the State of São Paulo for the client Natura &Co. The vehicles, which transport the finished products of the cosmetic brand, will be able to run on biomethane, which further reduces the impact of this activity on the environment. From the outset, the projection is to emit 16% less pollutants compared to the diesel-powered fleet.
With the use of biomethane, which may be viable in the first half of 2023, the potential for reducing emissions reaches 82%, as the supply of this biofuel expands in Brazil. As an immediate result of this logistics transformation, more than 98 tons of greenhouse gases will no longer be emitted into the atmosphere each year.
The vehicles will be driven by women. In one year, 12,000 trips will be made, traveling 640,000 kilometers. Initially, the trucks will circulate along two routes, which include the municipalities of São Paulo, Cajamar and Itupeva, headquarters of Natura’s manufacturing units and distribution centers.
Circulating on the main highways of the State, such as Bandeirantes, Anhanguera and Dom Gabriel, the trucks will bear the message of the Positive Impact Day, an initiative that represents Natura’s ambition to be Net Zero by 2030, a purpose in line with Coopercarga’s goals that seek ESG practices in transportation.
“There is a direct relationship between transport and sustainability, depending on the impact of CO2 emissions.
